Terms of Use
Effective September 2026
Pocket Marshal provides guidance and section references to help a certified inspector find and understand a requirement. It does not reproduce the text of any code or standard, it is not a legal opinion or an official code interpretation, and it must not be relied on in place of the adopted code. The inspector is responsible for reading the governing section in the adopted edition and applying their own professional judgment. The authority having jurisdiction decides.
1. Scope of these terms
These terms govern use of this website and the Pocket Marshal application. A department's use of the service is separately governed by the signed agreement between us and that department; where the signed agreement and these terms conflict, the signed agreement controls.
2. Who may use the service
Pocket Marshal is licensed to fire prevention departments for use by their trained, authorized inspection personnel. It is not intended for use by the general public, and it is not a tool for determining compliance of your own property. Each inspector uses their own credentials; credentials may not be shared.
3. What the service provides
- Plain-language guidance on what a requirement is generally understood to mean.
- The section reference where that requirement is found, applied in the order of precedence configured for the department's jurisdiction.
- Suggested language for communicating a finding, and suggested next steps for a property owner.
- Escalation to human review when a situation is ambiguous rather than a confident guess.
4. What the service does not provide
- It does not provide code text. We do not reproduce, republish, or distribute codes or standards. Departments must maintain their own licensed access to the codes they enforce.
- It is not legal advice and is not an official interpretation of record.
- It does not make determinations. Outputs are advisory decision support for a certified inspector.
- It is not a substitute for the adopted code, for department procedure, for training, or for certification.
5. Your responsibilities as a user
- Verify the governing section in your department's adopted edition before issuing any finding.
- Apply your own judgment and your department's guidance; escalate when the product or your own assessment says to.
- Enter only what an inspection requires; do not enter personal information about members of the public beyond what the finding calls for.
- Do not use the service to generate or issue official notices without your own review.
- Do not attempt to extract, scrape, resell, or build a competing dataset from the service.
6. AI-generated output
Responses are generated by an AI system and can be incorrect or incomplete. We make reasonable efforts toward accuracy, including configuring the service to a department's code hierarchy during onboarding, but we do not warrant that any output is correct, current, or suitable for a particular situation. Treat every output as a starting point to be verified, never as a final answer.
7. Availability
The service requires an internet connection to generate answers. We aim for reliable availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service, and we may perform maintenance or update the service over time.
8. Intellectual property
We own the Pocket Marshal software, the Marshal character, and all associated branding. Codes and standards remain the property of their publishers, and nothing in the service grants any license to code text. Materials a department supplies during onboarding remain that department's property; we use them only to provide the service.
9. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or accuracy.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for inspection outcomes, enforcement actions, property damage, injury, loss of life, fire events, or third-party claims arising from decisions made by a department or its inspectors. Any liability we do have is limited as set out in the applicable signed agreement.
10. Privacy
Our handling of information is described in our Privacy Policy.
11. Changes
We may update these terms; we will update the effective date above and, for changes that materially affect a department's use, notify that department directly.
12. Trademarks
Pocket Marshal™ and the Marshal mascot are our trademarks. NFPA®, NFPA 1®, and NFPA 101® are registered trademarks of the National Fire Protection Association; Knox-Box® is a registered trademark of Knox Associates, Inc. We reference these marks only to identify the codes and equipment an inspection concerns. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by those organizations, and nothing in the service is an official interpretation by them.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
